A significant amount of knowledge is required when it comes down to the art of luring. For the angler that has tirelessly casted his/her lure to tempt various species, finally unearthing the secrets could mean essential information that they hold dearly– and at times unwilling to share.
Our transition into the technique of Casting lures in Fishing took awhile. It was always so exhausting, most of the time reaping no rewards, instead a shoulder and back-ache would ensue. That was until, we discovered the magic of Berkley® PowerBait®.
You will need a lot of guts to be a brand like Berkley® and have a slogan that reads, “Catch More Fish”. Their selection of soft baits is not only enticing to the anglers, but a weakness for most species beneath the waters as well. How do we know this?
Our team has spent the last couple of months weighing out how a casting competition in one of the toughest Catch & Release ponds within Klang Valley could take place…successfully. Many give up on the Jugra Catch & Release Pond, located in Banting; mostly because they claim the best species which are the Red Drum & G.T require a lot more work to entice.
What if we told you, an average of three anglers within our team achieved 10 hook-ups each within just an hour of fishing the Red Drum & G.T pond? That’s an average total of 30 hook-ups on every trip since we have understood the techniques. A hook-up is guaranteed; landing them however, depends a lot on your gear and ability to keep calm and keep the fish on!
Our secret is none other than the selection of baits we chose alongside the opportune hour. Guess what? We’re about to share our little secret with you, so hold on tight- you will be grabbing your rods and dashing out the door once we are done with this entry.

The colour of bait, weather and time matters – however, other type of lures (topwater, jigs) does not work as effectively (if at all!) in comparison to the Berkley® PowerBait® selection. We may have made a few anglers wonder with the amount of times we were hooking onto fishes successfully as their attempts failed them; if you were an angler present during the time we were trying out the various lures- now you too know how we did it!
The success of lure casting is unmatched, the triumphant feeling far surpasses merely just catching a fish. A lot of focus and attention to detail goes into the art, once mastered, catches on to the passionate angler who then refuses to let the art go. What we have shared above, works beautifully and we confidently say so- we have been trying our hands at understanding the art for the past 5 months, we know we have somehow succeeded in discovering the secrets of fishing in Jugra’s Catch & Release pond, so as long as your perseverance is willing to give it a shot.
If you have your own successful methods fishing in this pond, we at The Milkfish Lady have a lure casting competition coming soon in April 2016, sign up if you feel you got what it takes to win.
Interested to try but not sure where to start? We invite you to fish with us! Drop us a message and allow us to make your transition into Sport Fishing, a fun, healthy & positive experience.
